International English Language Testing System (IELTS), as the name suggests is the internationally recognised  standard English language proficiency testing exam for those who aspires to study or work in the countries, where English is the first or the primary language for general and official communication.

IELTS - Academic Module

The exam pattern  is  more advanced . This version is more often used to determine whether a candidate is  qualified to enroll in any  academic course/ programme offered at undergraduate and graduate levels  in the institutions where English is the medium of instruction. It is also used to test the proficiency required for professional engagements in the English speaking countries.

IELTS - General Training Module

The exam is a much  simpler test. It focuses on basic proficiency levels and is to assess  the basic command over the language needed for day-to-day survival and correspondence  in social and educational contexts. It is generally requested for candidates applying for immigration, especially in countries like – Australia, Canada and UK amongst the array of others.

It is primarily taken by candidates who are looking to take  up jobs, or studying at a non-degree level.
