Study MBBS in Caribbean island – The Caribbean is a region of the Americas, comprising more than 700 islands, situated around the Caribbean Sea, and bordering the North Atlantic Ocean. The islands lie southeast of the Gulf of Mexico and the North American continent, east of Central America, and north of South America.

In the past few years, the Caribbean Islands have shown rapid development in medical education. University medical schools follow the educational models of British and American institutions, and pursuing an MD (Doctor of Medicine) affords international students multiple opportunities to establish themselves as skilled doctors anywhere in the world. Indian students, in particular, are offered a comfortable living whilst studying to fulfill their academic dreams.

There are two types of medical schools in the Caribbean: regional and offshore. Regional schools train their medical students for practice in the country where the school is located, for example, Cuba. Offshore medical colleges, however, cater primarily to international students from Canada, the USA whose intent is to return to their home countries to complete their postgraduate residency and clinical practice.

Indian students should feel confident to enroll in an MD from these offshore universities, as these qualifications have been approved by the Medical Council of India (MCI), and listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS).

Return to India to Practice & other Benefits

Upon completion of their medical studies, Indian graduates wishing to practice in India gain eligibility to sit the FMGE MCI Screening Test, the mandatory licensing examination, and one of the most critical exams of their medical career.

This is a test of their skills and capabilities as future doctors. It is conducted twice a year, in June and December; students are given two attempts to achieve the 50% pass grade out of 300 marks; the test has no age limits or demand for national rankings.

The major benefit of completing an MD in the Caribbean is the opportunity for Indian students to continue studies in Germany or the USA. Pursuing postgraduate MD/MS in either of these countries precludes graduates from the necessity to sit the MCI Screening Test, as these qualifications are valid in India. Also, a monthly stipend is allocated to students enrolled in medical studies in America.
